As spring makes its exit, and summer enters with warmer fanfare, you’ll most likely find yourself at a wedding or two. In fact, it’s possible that you have already attended at least one wedding in the past two months!
Once you receive your special wedding invite, the burning question is: What do I wear to a wedding? We know that we cannot outshine the bride (for shame!), but on the flip side we’re not trying to look like we should be at home tending to our garden. LBDs (Lovely Black Dresses; modest gals wear nothing that is too little) are always the last resort. Who doesn’t own a signature black dress?
Instead of reaching for your old faithful black dress, consider a sheath dress in a different color or print.
Sheath dresses are basic dresses with excellent tailored features. When selecting your sheath dress side step tiers, ruffles, and rows of lace. Personally, I love all of these embellishments, but all of this fanfare will gather more attention than necessary. Think twice: you’re not apart of the wedding party and this is not YOUR wedding.
If you come across a sheath dress that has capped sleeves or is sleeveless, simply wear a light cardigan in a complementary color over the dress. Sheath dresses come in a variety of lengths, so you are sure to find one that meets your modesty requirements.

I definitely love sheath dresses. So polish, classic & timeless. These 2 dresses in particular are perfect for the spring & summer months!
The sheath on the left is so lovely, and with the high neckline can easily be worn by those concerned with modesty! I am quite partial to fancy skirt/crisp white button downs to weddings myself.
Nancy, I agree! I love the tailored look of sheath dresses!
Hi, Nina! I was very fond of the dress on the left, too!
Thanks for your comments!
