Covered Up in Summer

I must admit that attempting to dress modestly in the heat can be a tad bit annoying. Still, seasons come and go and it’s definitely possible to maintain a modest appearance when the mercury seems to burst through the roof.

My air conditioner in my classroom was broken for the FIRST THREE DAYS OF SCHOOL. My room was 95 degrees and I was sweating like a warthog. It didn’t help that I was posted up in front of a super hot overhead projector and that 20 other little bodies were complaining about the heat. Thank GOD that the maintenance department came and fixed my air conditioner yesterday and I was able to teach in peace. During the summer I try to limit the amount of layering by simply wearing dresses—one piece equals less hassle and more comfort. So far I’ve worn dresses every day this week. Today, however, involved layering (shirt under dress).

Side note: I recently made the transition from eyeglasses to contacts and it was not a pleasant transition. The contacts hurt my eyes and I was unable to put them in. My optometrist heard my woes and complaints, gave me a new pair, and I wore them today. However, I felt naked so I slipped on a pair of black non-prescription frames. Yes, dear readers, I wore contacts and eyeglasses today.

Today’s teaching outfit:

Target Dress that I bought last night for $7—The rack was littered with these dresses; sizes 2 to 32 and I was surprised that I even found my size. The high neckline and ruffle front won me over, and the price wasn’t too shabby, either.

Blue shirt from Gap—When wearing black/white I like to wear a contrasting color.

Red watch from Pier 1 Imports $5—My students really liked this watch; the face is large and the numbers are huge.

Banana Republic Sandals

Fake eyeglasses (!!) from eBay

Black patent leather belt from another dress

How do you brave the heat in the summer?

Ps. You’ll have to excuse my Quasimodo stance (middle); that’s just me being goofy.

Yey! I love your outfit posts, I never imagined what your style was behind this blog, I mean you always post about nice outfits but I like to look at your outfits the most, and buying fake glasses and wearing them? that made me giggle! You are too funny Chandra D. (love your name). Now to the outfit, you look spledind, love the contrasting colors, black and white always look so good and for that prize? wow! I need to check out target more often! I feel you on not having AC, the last 3 times at SUnday school the AC has not been working and the room has huge windows that face straight to to very hot sun! I hope fall comes soon. To be totally honest the heat has been affecting what I want to wear, I don’t feel as excited about getting dressed because once I go outside I start feeling those horrible drops of sweat go down my spine, as soon as I get home everything comes off and I go back to a large t-shirt or pjs to make myself cool off. I’m glad for you and the kiddos that the AC is working now!

Thanks, Shey! I’m so busy right now, but I’m going to do my best to dedicate at LEAST two blog posts to “what I wore”. The heat takes its toll on me, and it plays a HUGE part in what I wear. This summer has been BLAH for me. I don’t feel like getting dressed up, layering up, etc. and I don’t feel like spending too much time getting dressed. I can’t wait for for fall, though! Woohoo!

Great outfit, I do not envy you in that heat!  I completely understand about the whole glasses thing. I have throw away contacts and 6 pairs of glasses (lol)  And somehow every day I always choose the glasses, I also feel naked without them!

Amy, I launched this blog back in March, so it’s been around for a few months! Thanks for your comment!
