Is it just me, or does it feel like 2010 sped by quickly? Of course it’s a relative feeling. Depending on the events that transpired in your own life, the year could seem extra long or super short. When I was kid it seemed like it took three years to get from January 1st to December 31st and I never understood why adults would refer to the cliché I mentioned above.
While browsing Facebook two weeks ago my clicks led me to Charity Stills’ latest fashion venture: Pentecostal Apostolic Clothing. Her holiday fabrics and design threw me for a loop: the holidays were really around the corner!
Charity’s modest dresses are perfect for the modest lady that plans on attending any formal holiday gathering, or who simply enjoys dressing up. If you’re a Pentecostal Apostolic like I am, then you know that Pentecostal women do not need a “reason” to dress up. However, Charity’s holiday dresses offer the perfect amount of lady like embellishment, class, and holiday tribute to make any feel giddy about the upcoming and current festive season.
Seventeen (yes, 17!) year old Charity was delighted to answer a few questions about her current holiday line and her hair accessories.
MoMoMod: How old are you/where are you from?
Charity: I am 17. I will be 18 soon! I am from North Carolina and I’m a Southern Belle.
MMM: How long have you been sewing? Who taught you to sew?
Charity: I have been sewing off and on since I was 12. Basically, I was fixing slits in skirts and taking in the sides. J My mom taught me the basics, then I went from there. You should have seen my first skirt. It looked like rags!
MMM: You also have a headband line, Dainty Jewells. What did you start first? Sewing or crafting up hair accessories?
Charity: I started Dainty Jewells intentionally to make headbands and have unique ones available for ladies to purchase. Then I went to a youth conference this past summer, and made all my outfits and had a billion compliments. So I decided I wanted to make amazing modest clothing for other ladies.
MMM: What inspired your latest clothing collection? What inspires your hair accessories collection?
Charity: Well, my latest collection I just launched was Dainty Jewells “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” Collection. This collection was inspired by warm, cozy fireplace nights with friends and family while snow falls outside the window. I also went with the High Dinner Party feel also. My hair accessories are inspired by my desire to stand out in a crowd. I like to have something different than the normal flower on the side of your hair.
MMM: What does modesty mean to you? Modesty is something I’m not ashamed of. I enjoy dressing lady like. Dressing like a lady is so classy! I treasure the fact that I can go out in public and not blend in with everyone else because of my convictions and modest style. Plus, you can dress super cute and still be modest!
MMM: Since you are able to sew, can you offer a few DIY tips/suggestions for ladies that would like to make immodest clothing modest?
Charity: Use your imagination. If you have a too short dress what color would you wear under it? Then start designing. There are so many ideas out there: ribbons, bows, ruffles, flowers, etc. DJewells signature is of course… ruffles!
MMM: What’s your opinion on reconstructed vintage clothing (i.e. taking vintage clothing and revamping it to create something new)?
Charity:I love to wear vintage clothing! Most of them as is. Some I have added ruffles (of course), I have taken down the sleeves, or made the item a-Line. Vintage is always so classy, so I say go for it!
MMM: How can your customers purchase clothing from your Holiday Collection or for your Dainty Jewell accessories? Is your Etsy account active?
Charity: Right now I am currently working on getting a website up and running. But my designer had other stuff come up. I’m being patient in this whole process. You send requests to my email at: daintyjewells [at] hotmail.com! Or you can comment the face book DJewells page and Ill send you a message. You can also purchase through Etsy.
MMM: You’re going on a trip and you can only take 5 things (toiletries and undergarments are excluded). What do you take?
Charity: The perfect evening dress (I love to dress up for a night on the town), several hair accessories to spice up any outfit, a scarf to add the special touch to a summer or winter outfit, my Leopard pumps, and chocolate teddy grahams.
Other things to note:
DJewells offers giftcards. You can contact Charity with more information on giftcards for her items.
Charity does make custom sized orders. Her items are available in plus sizes; there is a $14-$25 increase for sizes 14+.
