San Diego Excursion

“Truly great friends are hard to find, difficult to leave, and impossible to forget.”—Unknown

I’ve been blessed to befriend some pretty awesome people over the years. I met my friend Christina at a church conference more than six years ago, and we have shared some great times together. Unfortunately, life (and distance) kept us from meeting up as often as we would have liked. As we text messaged each other back and forth two weeks ago, Christina suggested a weekend trip to San Diego. I liked her suggestion.

She made the three hour drive from her house to mine, and then we proceeded to make the three and a half hour drive to San Diego at 11:00pm (smart, huh?).

When I mentioned that I would Priceline a hotel in advance, Christina said, “No, because we might be too tired. We might have to stay in L.A. and then drive to San Diego on Saturday morning.” We went back and forth and she won.

As we drove to San Diego I attempted to make reservations at a hotel. No such luck. All the hotels along San Diego’s Hotel Circle were completely booked. We found ourselves stuck at a gas station in Laguna Niguel frantically trying to make reservations via my laptop and Christina’s Droid X. Christina was finally able to use her employee discount to get us reservations at—wait for it—a Super 8 motel. Let’s just say that I’m a hotel snob. Let’s just say that I have qualms about staying in a place that has less than three stars. Let’s just say that I was not comfortable sleeping at a shady Super 8 motel 8-10 miles south of San Diego, but people that don’t reserve hotels in advance cannot be choosy about where they rest their heads on a weekend excursion. We were tired. We stayed. We survived. Christina and I are still friends. We made some more memories (and the Super 8 motel wasn’t too bad).

We spent our Saturday hitting up a variety of thrift stores and Goodwill stores and had an incredible time. We’ve decided to call it the annual SoCal Thrift Store Hop. Unfortunately, I have no pictures of the amazing beach(es), Balboa Park, or any of the other amazing scenery we encountered. BOO.

Thanks for a great weekend, Christina!

(I just realized that I REALLY love mustard/yellow colored tops! I’m wearing one here, here, and here! The scarf and boots made their debut here. The cobalt blue skirt can be found at Forever 21 for $7.80)

That sounds like SO much fun! Oh how I love a good day of thrift store “hopping”. It has been awhile and now you’ve got me in the mood!

Must admit, I am a hotel snob too. Spoiled ROTTEN.

It was! We mixed in a lil’ bit of non-thrift store shopping, but our day pretty much consisted of typing in Goodwill store in her Droid and driving to the nearest one in our area. We found some really cute things. I was mainly looking for books for my classroom library, but I found a cute vintage dress, some boots, and few other smaller items.

Ohhh Mieshia, I wanted to call you. It was 3am! I decided to let you rest and not have you worrying about my hotel/motel/Holiday Inn situation. I even called La Jolla Best Western because that was the place where I wanted to stay. Unfortunately, they were all sold out, too! xo
