Today’s blog post is part two in a five part series; you can read the first blog post here. Nikia of Chitown Fashionista is today’s guest blogger.
When Chandra gave me the task of coming up with 3 “future vintage” items, I immediately thought about the things that give me the most joy! My brooch collection, my slew of wraps/pashminas/scarves, and my embroidered shoes by Karen Millen. It then hit me all of these items have some sentiment or unique story behind them. And don’t those usually make the best vintage?! Although, that also means I probably won’t be as willing to give them up. I guess I’ll be saving these for my future daughter!

My affinity with brooches began over 2 years ago when I discovered local jewelry vendor, Le Bouton. The owner, Sonni, had such a unique way of creating brooches through the layering of vintage and antique pieces. Since then, the majority of my purchases have been vintage brooches (either in their original state or remixxed with other vintage findings). They’re one-of-a kind and the history behind them adds loads of character. The others in my collection are either unique in their origin (some from a friend in London) or design (the fringe badge by DRAPES is my new favorite). I wear them on everything from coats and capes to blazers and cardigans.

Pashminas started off as my traveling companion. They look great with almost any outfit and keep me warm on the airplane. I always pick up a new one when traveling overseas; now, people are starting to gift them to me! Metallic threading and pom pons are my embellishments of choice. In the future, I believe pashminas will continue to appeal to those looking to add a little sophistication to their wardrobe. In addition to the pashminas, I had to slip in my Missoni scarf. Purchased at the Missoni outlet in Switzerland 5 years ago, this scarf has been my winter staple ever since. I practically live in it because it complements every winter coat and cape in my closet. Designer items make the best vintage because of their quality and durability and this scarf is no exception.

I purchased the Karen Millen shoes for my high school class reunion. They were my first “expensive” pair of shoes and my first major purchase while living in London. The embroidery detail is so intricate and the large crystal at the toe adds a substantial amount of bling. These shoes, that have only been worn once, now sit on display in my bedroom…too good to be hidden in the closet amongst the rest of my shoe collection. The design is timeless and will make any girl feel pretty, now or 20 years from now.
What covetable items in your closet are predicted “future vintage”items?

Thanks for including me in this blog series! It was such a great idea.
You’re very welcome. As I type I’m eying my stack of brooches and scarves!
OK Nikia, When I saw your broth collection I wanted to own all of them. When I saw your scarves I wanted to wrap my little self in each of them. Now this is the first time that I am meeting those fab black and white Karen Millen shoes. I WANT, I WANT, I WANT…. the cutest! How gorg would your future fashionista be with those? She’d be a star just like mommie!
Awesome picks!!
Those Karen Millen shoes are to die for! I don’t blame you for not wearing them and just keeping them on display. A lucky lady will inherit them as future vintage one day.
Great job Nikia!
Love those shoes!
