I used the holidays as an excuse to consume way too many food items. I devoured a lot of tamales. And cake. I didn’t go to (fitness) bootcamp. I’m going back tomorrow. I am scared. <insert wide eyed emoticon here>
Since I was feeling and seeing the results of my massive amounts of caloric intake over the past several weeks (the cruise did not help), I knew that an all black ensemble was in order for AM church. I also knew that I didn’t want to deal with the hassles of layering and adding this and that to complete an outfit.
Enter “the dress”. Dresses are simple and convenient on days like this. While browsing a thrift store five years ago I came across this dress I fell in love with it when I saw it. The high collar, the belt, and the skirt are very much 1950s and I love a 1950s dress.
Aside from too many tamales, today’s annoying issue was also static cling. It caused the front of my dress to rise a little bit and by the time I realized it I was well on my way to church. If only all of the world’s problems consisted of annoying static cling.
Had it not been for my weekly browsing of Rusty Zipper I would have found a different black ensemble to wear. I’ve been a fan of Rusty Zipper since I was in high school and they have hundreds of dresses from every era and decade for sale on their e-commerce site. After browsing their collection of 1950s cocktail dresses last night I remembered that I had my own vintage dress in my closet and knew that it would be the perfect and easiest choice for church.
1950s Dresses From Rusty Zipper
Take a look at these 1950s inspired looks and dresses. I know that most people aren’t fans of vintage, but you’ve got to admit: ladies back then were all about looking great and wearing amazing dresses.
I wanted to post more pictures of the dress I was wearing but with static cling and the wind blowing, my hem line was doing way too many tricks! While this coat is not vintage, I bought it because it was vintage inspired. The large buttons, the collar, the length–I’m a fan. I have several 1950s-1960s coats in my closet, but this one is actually Betsey Johnson circa 2009.
Do you love a certain era or time period? Did you eat too many tamales over the holidays?

Hi, Michelle. Thanks! I'm browsing your blog now.
Chandra
Did the exact same thing today! Now that the holidays have passed, nothing is fitting me right so I wore a black dress. Must have been one of those days :)
DEFINITELY one of those days! Black is so easy to put on, wear, and all that jazz. Hopefully by the end of the month I'll shed some of this tamale weight!

Meg, I doubt that I will get tired of either of them. LOL BUT!!! If I doooooo, I will let you know, my friend!

Super cute dress! The 1950s (and into the early '60s) is absolutely my favorite decade! Everything was so ladylike: delicate heels, full skirts, tiny waists; some of my favorite things.
Though tamales weren't my food of choice, I definitely ate too much over the holidays as well. LOL. So you're not alone in the work to shed those extra pounds. We can do it! :-)
Chandra, that coat is fab and I will steal it if I ever get to Cali, LOL.
I love a nice 50's pencil skirt! Not so much the fuller skirts, but I love them on other people. I recently refashioned a vintage 50's party dress for a friend (I'll post details soon!)
The fuller skirts are tricky for me; I tend to like the pencil dresses. I do like the full skirt look on other people, too! I can't wait to read about the refashioned dress!

These photos are AMAZING! I love the jacket! X
Thanks!
hhmmm for some reason blogger has not let me know when you update (bummer). O loooove that coat, is it vintage? My favorite decade is of course the 50's. I didn't eat tamales during Christmas but I did eat a lots of bread, thankfully I just finished dropping the extra pounds I gained during winter break. =)
Sadly, no. The coat is newer (circa 2009ish) and I bought it at Nordstrom Rack. I'm still working on dropping the holiday weight. I should be good to go by this week!!
