Best Modest Red Carpet Dresses at the 2012 Golden Globes

Fact: I grew up with out a television. I still don’t have a television, but I have a computer and an iphone. I’m not missing out.

Fact: I’ve never seen the Oscars,  Grammys, or any other awards because of fact number one. Because of the latter portion of fact number one I tend to find out all info as it’s happening (but let’s be honest; it’s not THAT important).

Fact: As a kid I’d use the newspaper (my dad faithfully brought a newspaper home every day and I either read it before or after school) to play catch up on current events. Today I use Twitter, Facebook, and blogs to catch up on current events.

Last night I was able to catch a portion of the Golden Globes because I was near a TV. As a kid I felt as if I really missed out on something when my school friends would discuss televised award shows. Twenty something or so years later I realized that I didn’t miss out on a single thing. The awards were just as boring as ever and everything I needed to know I got from my Twitter stream.

Let’s discuss the real reason people pay any attention to these awards shows at all: THE RED CARPET. Let’s take a look at some of the modest red carpet dresses for the 2012 Golden Globes.

Jessica Biel in Valentino; per blogs and Twitter the general consensus was that her dress was a miss due to its bridal nature. Your thoughts? I pinned it to my wedding board on Pinterest.

Michelle Williams meshed cute and classy. The texture and silhouette of the dress is spot on in my book. The blogosphere can’t decide if she looks too much like a lil’ girl or if she’s red carpet chic. What do you think?

Julianna Margulies looks good from the front,  but I’m thinking this dress has the business-in-the-front-party-in-the- back- thing going on. I’m 95% certain that this dress is backless, but have yet to find pictures online to prove my suspicions. Nevertheless, what do you think?

Melissa McCarthy looks age appropriate and good from head to toe.

Kelly Obsborne in a cobalt blue number.

I’m pretty sure Helen Mirren has found the fountain of youth and is hoarding it.

Comment: Who do you think had the best modest look?

Julianna Margulies' dress is indeed backless. :) I'm digging Kelly Obsborne!

I love Kelly's dress but the hair....well, she could have done better in my opinion. Julianna's dress is just ugly to me and Michelle looks amazing.

The hair! I was also thinking that. I know Kelly received backlash because of her jutted shoulders, but I think she looks good. As for Julianna's dress...I'm not sold on the color. I like column looks, but I think this dress might have looked better in black. Michelle was my favorite! Thanks, Dionna!

I love the dress from the lady in green, you know, I have a T.V. however my mom always taught us that staying in front of the T.V. was a waste of time (she's a workaholic) so even though I was able to watch T.V. and I own one that idea from my mom has stayed with me so we don't watch it, except for movies that we rent. Anyways a lot of times I feel like I'm missing out when I have no idea what my friends are talking about, usually many T.V. shows, and then I remember how I rather hit the gym or enjoy my evening sewing than sitting like a couch potato. It would benefit us more to be active than to sit in front of the T.V. all day.
