Pretty Is This: 5 Hair Care Tips

Glorious Friday is finally upon us! So! Before I post any hair how-tos, I wanted to share a few modest tips on how to care for your hair. After all, it is most important if you want to keep your hair healthy and happy!

Tip 1: Shampoo and Conditioner. This is your hair, ladies. Healthy hair = spending a little more on the good stuff that will last you longer AND keep your hair radiant. Bargain hunt to find good deals! A family friend let me know that we have a store nearby that gets all the Costco rejects, so she finds good, brand new shampoo and conditioner for cheap!  See what you can find.

I use Nexxus, which works very well on my hair.

Tip 2: When you shampoo and condition, you want to shampoo your roots and condition your ends. Hair closer to the scalp is healthier and contains natural oils, so your roots don’t need a whole lot of conditioner. Deep conditioning your hair is also a good practice, at least once every two weeks.

Tip 3: Limit the amount of heat you put on your hair. I know, blow dryers, curling irons, and flat irons make our hair look amazing and beautiful! But excessive heat damages and thins our hair out. Using myself as an example, I learned how to curl my hair with a curling iron at 10-11 years old. Bad idea. I had long, thick, fine hair.  My hair is still long, but not as thick and fine as it used to be from all the blow drying and the curling irons I put to it. I miss my hair.

To avoid this damage, let your hair air dry after you wash it, and try something such as pin curling your hair and letting it sit  for awhile (sleeping on pinned up hair with a scarf over your head will get you the same luscious curls!). There are other ways to curl hair without heat, which I may go over in the future!

Tip 4: Thermal protectors. If you are going to using curling irons, flat irons, and blow dryers, use a heat protector. I’ve used the Tresemee’ brand before, which was okay. I’ve also used It’s a 10 It’s A Miracle Leave In Product, which is a lot better. (It’s A 10 products are excellent.)

Tip 5: Eat right! Not only is this good for our body, but eating well is also good for our hair! Watch what you eat, get lots of protein and take your vitamins!

Do you have any hair care tips that work for you? Do share!

Cheers to happy and healthy hair!

It helps not to wash your hair everyday. You strip it of the natural oils. Waterless shampoo is the best for in between wash days!

Agreed. I used to wash my hair every day (as a kid my mom only washed it once a week), but have toned it down. I've never used waterless shampoo; I do co-rinse, which is a fancy way of saying washing your hair with conditioner. My shampoo of choice is Dove and my conditioner is by Aussie.

I agree in not washing your hair every single day. I use Mega Volume Next Day spray by Mark. for those non-shampoo days. It has a refreshing scent and it helps minimize the appearance of oily hair.

Also, when I curl my hair using a heated device, I start curling from the roots and apply minimal amount of heat to my tips. This may not work for some, but I have thick course hair that lends itself to heat pretty willingly and quickly.

    Great post!

Is the Mega Volume Next Day spray available through AVON? I remember Mark being apart of AVON. Hmmm. Questions for Google!
