Oh. Oh, my. It is Monday. It is 8:19 AM. I am at my house. IT. IS. SUMMER. BREAK.

School actually ended Wednesday, but I was back in my classroom Thursday (cleaning). On Friday I got sick (still sick; I have no idea what’s going on), Saturday I chaperoned an end of the year trip to Monterey Bay Aquarium, Sunday I was laid up in bed STILL sick, and today I woke up at 4:30 AM and hustled my hindquarters to boot camp. Sadly, I left boot camp early because I was feeling light headed and not up to par. I got my 40 minutes of exercise in and booked it home.
After a shower I felt a little better and here I am. I have to do some running around today because I am in desperate need of a dress (my preference) for my engagement photos (next week).
I’m having to really practice what I preach. Many people lament that it can be difficult to find modest clothing and over the past two weeks I totally agree with that statement (I previously suggested alllllll the different ways to make immodest clothing modest).
All the dresses and skirts I’ve come across are:
1. Too short
2. Sleeveless
3. Backless
4. Strapless
5. Unflattering
Ugh. I went to my closet to pull out a dress I thought I still had in my possession–I didn’t. Over the past three weeks I’ve dumped loads of clothing off at Goodwill and that dress was one of them.
I’ve been a major proponent of layering, but in the summer sometimes I just want to wear a dress and be done. No extra shirt, no blazer, no cardigan–nada.
So today I’m making it my mission to see if I can find some modest skirts and dresses that do not require any rigging. I plan to post my find on Facebook and hopefully I can come in under $50 with an outfit for my engagement photos. We all should have such “problems”.
Stefanie blogged about headbands Friday and I decided to wear a headband today. This outfit is actually the reverse of THIS outfit. Ha.
Does anybody want to join my “woe-is-me-where-are-the-cute-and-flattering-modest-dresses” Pity Party? No?!
Wearing: Anthropologie top, vintage/thrifted skirt, some headband I bought at Nordstrom. Other pictures are from our Monterey trip.
phew! i know what you mean! its really hard to find modest dresses!
know your want to keep it 50, but might I suggest maybe ordering a dress from Shabby Apple? they have modest dresses. I recently ordered one from their site and it fits perfect, very modest, and they have a wide selection of different dresses.
Good luck tho!

Sadly, Shabby Apple didn’t have anything I liked. They have offered to host a giveaway, so look out for it!
*GASP* Shabby Apple are having a giveaway?!
Monterey Bay Aquarium! I grew up there! Well, not at the aquarium, but you know…
I live near Hollister now though. But I always jump a little when I see someone on the internet is so close! Cool!
My fisnce’s parents live in Hollister! Yay!
I have been facing the SAME problem! I just told my hubby that I want a dress that I can just throw on without a ton of layers.. I am on the prowl for one!
Right?! I’m hoping and praying for The perfect dress!
All my life, I cursed my short stature (I’m a “grown” woman who’s only 4’11″!) but now that I began attending church a few years back, it’s a blessing! Lots of dresses that should fit women as mini are knee length on me. But even then, I still have problems sometimes, and then I lament for all the tall modest ladies! Plus, shortness isn’t an advantage when so many pretty dresses are sleeveless or sheer. But I totally relate on the fussy layering. Most of my wardrobe consists of dresses nowadays because I don’t even like the fuss of dealing with separates, haha! Thrift stores always come through sooner or later, though, right? lol Happy hunting for your dress!
See, my stature is a major factor! I’m five feet eight and I reaallllly like to make sure that my skirts/dresses cover my knees when I sit. So while some dresses have the sleeve and neckline covered, they miss the length mark buy a couple of inches! Typically this an easy problem to solve! I wear a lot of dresses as tops, wear longer skirts under dresses, and pretty much what other ladies do! But for my engagement photos I don’t want to worry about alllll the extra clothes!
Oh, and I found a dress at a thrift store today!!!
Have you tried eshakti.com ?? They customize dresses for only 7.50. Most of their dresses can have sleeves and hems lengthened at your request. One dress was backless, I asked them to cover the back and they complied. Really great service.
Yes, thank you. I like eShakti, but didn’t find anything I liked this time around.
